SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP)—Nick Watney has taken a two-stroke lead halfway through
the third round of the PGA Championship.
Watney birdied five of his first seven holes Saturday afternoon to get to 11
under for the tournament. That’s two strokes better than Dustin Johnson, the
54-hole leader at the U.S. Open who had an epic meltdown on Sunday. Four players
are at 8 under, including 2003 U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk and Rory McIlroy,
who tied for third at the British Open.
Tiger Woods has recovered from his tough start with two birdies on the back
nine. But he’s 1 over for the day through 14 holes, and is now nine shots behind
Tom Lehman had the first hole-in-one of the tournament, acing the 217-yard
17th with a 4-iron.
